First off, there is a lot of credible research being done on allergens and the benefits to eliminating them from your diet (provided you actually are allergic). Most of this is being done with little to no financial support to the research and therefore very low publicity due to the fact that major chemical companies and food giants don't want you to know how bad their wares are for you the consumer. Again, the biggest offenders in the category are gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, shellfish and perhaps the most insidious and overlooked ones of all - food dyes, preservatives and artificial sweeteners.
What is one to make of all of this? Well, do not ever let a lab coat or a corporate suit tell you something is in your "head." Many people have been duped into years of needless suffering due to the advice of a dietitian or doctor peddling the corporate party line. What party line is that you ask? It's the one where the school you go to or organization you belong to takes money from corporate donors and then those corporate donors dictate policy. We here at Wholistic Revolution call it "selling your soul." Soul sellers include the Food and Drug Administration, American Medical Association, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and numerous colleges and universities around the world.
Here is how to eliminate and succeed with tangible evidence of your success. First, you need to be careful in what you pick to eliminate....i.e. don't go postal and eliminate everything at once. Things are harder to track that way. Second, you're going to need a food log....like the one we sell in the store....I know, I know shameless plug but we have used this model for years and have the success rate to prove it. Third, you need to eliminate your suspected offender for a minimum of 90 days (that means 90 days of filling out a food log in detail and tracking everything with precision - not a task that most "vanity" seekers are willing to go through) so you have enough data to make a logical, rational decision.
After 90 days comes the hard part (and this may take longer than this but we are using 90 days as a baseline example). Let's give an example - say you think you have a gluten intolerance and your symptoms manifest as the lack of ability to think clearly, bloated belly, and trouble having a bowel movement - all common, gluten related complaints. You eliminate and track and notice that your thinking is clear, your midsection has trimmed down and you have no issues with the bathroom. Now you will slowly add the offending compound back into your diet - if presto - your symptoms re-emerge with the quickness then you know, for yourself, based off of your own tracking and research that you have a problem with gluten (from the example). Just be sure to adjust the intake of vitamins and minerals that you are taking away by eliminating a food group or type with something else. This is a common scare tactic of the establishment - eliminate gluten? They cry, "What about the B vitamins?" Let's see, what has lots of bio-available B vitamins.....I know! High quality, organic grass fed meats and wild game! See how that works?
Anything anyone has to say on the topic to you personally is moot after this. We all are an experiment of one. Take the power out of the hands of the establishment, stop letting other people force what their version of "healthy" is on you and fight for your rights as a consumer to not be fed mis-truths in the name of profits.
